Precision ball bearings come in three different types. There are super-precision ball bearings, high-precision cylindrical roller bearings and high-precision spindle bearings. The various precision ball bearings all perform different functions. The super-precision ball bearing is mainly used for the ultimate accuracy of produced components on lathes and milling machines. High-precision cylindrical roller bearings are used where large radial loads apply at lower speeds.
High-precision spindle bearings are used at the ends of a ball screw to determine a more accurate location and to withstand large axial loads.
Precision bearings are mainly used at high rotational speeds, for example in compressors and vacuum pumps, but high-precision bearings can also be found in the dentist's drill. Similarly, they appear in the drive spindles of a machining centre to make an engine block, where precise and rapid movements are performed with precise tolerances.
