Spherical thrust bearings have specially designed races that can accommodate a large number of asymmetric rollers. Therefore spherical thrust bearings are able to absorb radial loads in combination with axial loads. This is because the load is transferred from the shaft at an angle. Load is transferred from one race to another. In addition, spherical thrust bearings are self-aligning. This makes the bearings insensitive to misalignment of the shaft and deflection. Used for a combination of high axial load and also radial load, for example for an auger in a waste water treatment plant.
