A multidisc clutch is a torsionally rigid (fixed) coupling that can transfer high torques at high speeds. Spacers can be used to bridge greater distances.
This type of coupling is rupture-proof and shows almost no angular backlash. In addition, a multidisc clutch can compensate for angular, radial and axial deviations.
Further advantages of multidisc clutches are that they require no maintenance, are wear resistant and can be used in a temperature range of between -40°C and +280°C. This type of coupling is also characterised by almost vibration-free operation.
Some models can also be used in explosive areas (ATEX environments).
Multidisc clutches are primarily used in shipbuilding, pumps, compressors, ventilators, paper machines, cooling towers and wind turbines.
Current standards for shaft couplings are DIN 740, DIN 115 and DIN 116.
