Rigid couplings consist of two cast-iron halves that are connected with screws. Unlike a flexible coupling, a rigid coupling cannot compensate for angular, radial or axial deviations. No alignment errors are therefore permitted in this type of actuator.

A rigid coupling requires no maintenance or lubrication and is easy to install and remove. This type of coupling can be used to connected two shafts of the same diameter to each other, but shafts of this kind are also suitable with different diameters. Rigid couplings are available in both pre-drilled and clamping bush variants.

This product group also includes the spring coupling, which is suitable for transferring both high and low torques. A spring coupling comprises two hubs separated by a spring assembly, which is lubricated with grease and made largely from steel. Any replacement of the spring assembly is relatively easy thanks to the detachable casing, which means that the hubs do not need to be removed. Spring couplings that can be fitted with extended hubs are also available.

Current standards for shaft couplings are DIN 740, DIN 115 and DIN 116.
