Polyurethane V-belts are divided into two groups: PU V-belts that can be used for transport purposes, and PU V-belts for power transmission. This product group contains V-belts for power transmission. The PU belts for transport purposes can be found in our range of weldable belts.
Polyurethane V-belts for power transmission are narrow, heavy belts and are called Polyflex or flank angle 60° belts. These are available in 3M, 5M, 7M and 11M types (nominal upper width of 3, 5, 7 or 11 mm) and contain tension cords made of polyester (PES). A heavy-duty belt version is also available on request.
The polyurethane mixture is stronger than the raw materials used for conventional belts and provides a higher level of resistance to material fatigue and wear. In addition, these belts have a high friction coefficient and a very high adhesion with the tension cords. Furthermore, polyurethane belts are highly resistant to chemicals and oil and very resistant to temperatures of -54°C to +85°C.
All these properties make the Polyflex/flank angle 60° belts a suitable choice for compact drives with small pulleys in combination with high speeds. Accordingly, these belts are especially used in (tool) machines which offer a relatively high performance and high speeds in a limited space. This applies to milling machines, lathes, wood and metal processing machines and small ventilators.
When calculating a Polyflex drive, different factors determine whether a type 3M, 5M, 7M or 11M belt is best, for example the application, the power to be transmitted, the desired speed (acceleration or deceleration), the centre distance of the pulleys and any possible impact loads. It is also important to know what ambient conditions are present and whether there are any space limitations (what is the maximum width and diameter of the pulleys?).
Bekende normen voor V-riemaandrijvingen zijn o.a.: DIN2211, DIN2217, DIN7867, ISO4183, ISO5290 en ISO9981. Verder is het van belang om te weten of V-riemen statisch geleidend moeten zijn volgens ISO1813 (ATEX omgeving).
