PTFE lip seals

PTFE lip seals perform the same function and have the same shape as oil seals, but are made of a different material. These seals consist of a metal jacket containing a lip of PTFE (plastic). PTFE lip seals are more resistant to high temperatures and high rotational speeds. In addition, they are often self-lubricating, a feature that makes them suitable for dry-running applications. These products are widely used in the food industry because the materials are declared compliant under European (EC 1935) and American legislation (FDA).

When purchasing a PTFE lip seal, you always need to consider the shape and size, and the product material.

PTFE lip seal design

PTFE lip seals are available in a standard design, which consists of a metal body, a PTFE lip and an energiser. The energiser is made of rubber and absorbs vibration. The different parts are also sold separately. Do you need a seal with a special shape? Contact us via our enquiry form and we will create a custom PTFE seal for you.

PTFE lip seal dimensions

Our range includes seals in various metric sizes. Always take into account the shaft diameter, groove diameter and groove width in your application. Once these sizes are known, selecting the right PTFE lip seal is child's play.

PTFE lip seal materials

ERIKS offers different types of PTFE seals. Which one you need depends on the conditions in your application. For example, the speed of rotation and pressure are important factors. The higher the speed, the lower the maximum pressure a PTFE seal can withstand. You must also decide whether you need a lubricated or non-lubricated material. If you are looking for a lip seal for the food industry, it is important to consider the required certificates and declarations of compliance. Still not sure?
