Product overview |
This black FKM* O-ring from ERIKS is popular due to its good performance characteristics and its broad applicability in both static applications and slow, dynamic applications. The product is widely used in the chemicals sector, hydraulics and general industry. If you require a different colour for easy recognition, use the green FKM 51415 Compound. Note however that Compound 514641 is a better option for the food industry. In the pharmaceutical industry, you also use a different seal, specifically Compound 514701. What if you need a high-hardness FKM O-ring for a high-pressure application? If so, choose Compound 514320.
*FKM is often referred to by the brand name Viton.
Application
Temperature resistance
This FKM 75 O-ring has an operating temperature range of -20°C to +200°C.
Maximum pressure
Compound 51414 has a Shore A hardness of 75. So this product is suitable for applications with a maximum pressure of 80 bars. Note that you must also strictly adhere to the guidelines in the chart below. This chart shows the relationship between the hardness of your O-ring, the pressure in your application, the groove size and the seal clearance gap.
Are you going to use this seal in a slow, dynamic application with a pressure of 50 bars or higher? If so, you are advised to use back-up rings.
Chemical resistance
FKM is resistant to acids, bases, greases and oils. It also has good resistance to ageing and UV radiation. Furthermore, this material is often used in combination with a vacuum. For sealing steam, you should preferably use HNBR or FFKM, depending on the application.
