Self-aligning ball bearings have two rows of balls and a common groove in the outer ring. In terms of the self-aligning capacity of the bearing, this bearing type is insensitive to shaft angle errors in relation to the housing. It is particularly suitable for applications where significant shaft deflection or misalignment is expected. This type of bearing also has the lowest friction among roller bearings, which means that they also stay cooler at high speeds. Self-aligning ball bearings with an expanded inner ring are designed for less demanding applications. Thanks to the special bore tolerance, installation and removal are easy.

Self-aligning ball bearings with an extended inner ring are positioned on the shaft axially by means of a pin or supported screw in a slot on one side of the inner ring and also prevent the inner ring from rotating on the shaft. If two self-aligning ball bearings with an expanded inner ring are used to support a shaft, they must be positioned so that the grooves of the inner ring are facing each other or are at the outermost point of the bearings. If this is not the case, the shaft is sitting axially in one direction. Can be used in situations where a combination of slight radial/axial loads occurs, together with slightly higher speeds. Widely usable throughout industry.
